OX Belfast is an amazing restaurant.
Alright so, It is the bright airy room, open kitchen, excellent service and attention to detail that makes this place stand out. And then there is the food. Vibrant, flavoursome and modern with a deep-rooted French classic backbone.
I had a solo visit to Belfast in the summer of 2019 and treated myself to the 6 course lunch tasting menu which came with snacks and matching wine.
To start was homemade sourdough bread with a local butter, accompanied wit a snack of a cheese puff with a filo crisp topped with smoked eel, watercress and flowers. So many fresh flavours and textures. The next course was scallop in a dashi broth with fresh peas, verbena and fennel. Yet another stunning dish.
I think that it adds to the experience when you don’t have a menu next to you when having a tasting menu. All the courses come as a surprise. Chefs creativity coupled with beautiful seasonal ingredients. What came next looked amazing, foie gras parfait with radish, and it tasted just as good. Next course, what else than lobster. Perfectly cooked and dressed with courgette flower and sea vegetables. Lovely clean flavours.
Next up was fillet of beef, served with girolles, asparagus, black garlic and smoked potatoes. Outstanding. Followed by a refreshing lovage sorbet and rose granita with crystalised flowers.
Next came a blackcurrant sorbet with carnation cream and to finish I had coffee with petit fours.
It was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend anyone to go eat there.
